Manchester United Transfer News

It has been a bad week for Juan Mata at Chelsea, and United may well express an interest. Mata is concerned about not playing enough in a World Cup year and is keen to get away from Jose Mourinho. Although Mata is just the kind of creative influence United need, it seems highly unlikely that Chelsea would be willing to sell to their rivals.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Kokehas been the subject of strong rumours for some time. Moyes has been to Madrid to watch him, but, with Atletico knees deep in their first title race for a decade, they, too, will be reluctant to sell.

Leighton Baines undoubtedly will be given another inspection over the course of the month. Whether he arrives at United or not, this transfer has already caused tremendous damage to the relationship between United and Everton.

EXIT LIST
Rio Ferdinand has been making not so subtle indications about considering retirement. He has featured sparingly for Moyes the past couple of months and has been mistake-ridden when he has hit the field. The possibility of a swan song in the USA is on the cards. He certainly won't be getting a new contract in the summer.

For Anderson, the time must surely be up. United are short in midfield, and this might be the only thing that can keep him at the club any longer. Martin Ferguson described him as "better than Wayne Rooney" when scouting him in Brazil. An enormous disappointment. And such a long one, too; he has been at the club for six-and-a-half years. For context, Eric Cantona was at United for four-and-a-half.

There is much mystery around the manager's position onFabio. While Rafael has established himself as indispensable at right-back, Moyes has leaned heavily on Patrice Evra on the left and tested Alexander Buttner on a couple of occasions, too. Interest in Baines suggests Fabio's future might also be elsewhere. The club would consider offers.

Nani has been a target for Juventus for some time, and the Turin club might act this January. Wingers are one area of the squad in which United are healthy, and the right offer could see the Portuguese leave Manchester.
